Description
The Verus Engineering Small Hood Louver Kit for the Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S, and Toyota GT86 is designed to reduce underhood heat and pressure by efficiently evacuating hot air from beneath the factory hood. Improved airflow out of the engine bay helps increase cooling stack efficiency, reduce temperatures around heat-sensitive components, and provide a slight increase in front-end downforce.
During development, Verus Engineering chose to utilize the OEM hood because of its extremely lightweight construction. The louver system is designed to retain the hood's structural skeleton, helping preserve its strength, rigidity, and shape over years of use.
When paired with the factory hood, this purpose-built louver system weighs less than most carbon fiber replacement hoods while providing an effective solution for improving engine-bay cooling and aerodynamic performance.
Optional rain guard kits are also available for owners who want additional protection for engine-bay components from water entering through the louvers.

Aerodynamic Science
Verus Engineering developed the small hood louvers to address both underhood temperature and pressure on the BRZ, FR-S, and GT86.
Track-day enthusiasts have reported ignition coil failures during hot summer track sessions, with overheating considered a contributing factor. By evacuating hot air from the engine bay, the Verus Engineering louvers help reduce underhood temperatures and the air temperature surrounding the ignition coils.
The louvers also reduce pressure buildup beneath the hood, which can contribute to hood flutter during high-speed driving. Lower underhood pressure provides an additional aerodynamic benefit by reducing front-end lift and creating a slight increase in front-end downforce.
Verus Engineering highly recommends using the supplied wickers to further increase air evacuation and maximize the effectiveness of the hood louvers.
Installation
The kit includes two dedicated cut-out templates and all necessary installation hardware. The stainless flush clinch stud and serrated nut system allows the louvers to be removed for cleaning or servicing.
Optional Rain Guards
For owners who want additional protection from water entering through the hood vents, optional rain guard kits are available separately. These can help shield engine-bay components while retaining the benefits of the hood louvers.
