Description

The Verus Engineering Dual Dive Plane Kit for the Mk5 Toyota Supra is designed to increase front-end downforce while keeping the associated increase in drag to a minimum. The dual-element design works to extract airflow from the front wheel well while also generating additional aerodynamic load on the front axle.

Dive planes, also commonly referred to as canards, allow the aerodynamic balance of the vehicle to be shifted forward without requiring a larger front splitter. This can help improve front-end grip and provide additional control over the overall aerodynamic balance of the vehicle.

The Verus Engineering Dual Dive Planes are designed to provide a balanced aerodynamic setup with or without the addition of the Verus Engineering rear diffuser. They can be particularly useful when balancing the aerodynamic effects of a larger rear wing or rear diffuser.

The kit was developed using CAD and in-house scan data from the Mk5 Toyota Supra and optimized through CFD analysis to improve aerodynamic performance.

Each dive plane is manufactured from 1.5mm thick 2x2 twill pre-preg carbon fiber, autoclave cured, and finished with a polished high-gloss surface. The components are specifically contoured to follow the Supra's front bumper.

What Do Dive Planes Actually Do?

Dive planes, also known as canards, are aerodynamic devices designed to generate additional front-end downforce while influencing the overall aerodynamic balance of the vehicle.

Rather than requiring a larger front splitter that extends farther forward, dive planes provide another method of adding front aerodynamic load. This allows the vehicle to gain additional front-end grip while maintaining a more practical overall package for street-driven vehicles.

The Verus Engineering Dual Dive Plane Kit is designed to shift the aerodynamic balance toward the front of the vehicle. This forward-biased balance can help improve front-end grip and can be particularly useful when additional rear aerodynamic components increase rear downforce.

Aerodynamic Science

The Verus Engineering Dual Dive Plane Kit was developed to help tune the aerodynamic balance of the Mk5 Toyota Supra.

The dual-element design works with airflow around the front bumper and wheel well. The dive planes generate downforce while also helping extract airflow from the wheel well, contributing to improved front-end aerodynamic performance.

A key advantage of dive planes is their ability to add front-end aerodynamic load without requiring a significantly larger front splitter. Large splitters can become impractical for street driving because of their increased size and ground clearance requirements.

By using dive planes to shift the aero balance forward, Verus Engineering developed a more street-able aerodynamic solution capable of providing enough front-end downforce to help balance larger rear wings and rear diffusers used in its various Ventus configurations.

Aerodynamic Balance

Proper aerodynamic balance is critical when adding significant downforce to a vehicle. Increasing rear downforce without adding sufficient front-end aerodynamic load can shift the vehicle's balance rearward.

The Verus Engineering Dual Dive Plane Kit allows the aerodynamic balance to be shifted forward, helping fine-tune the vehicle toward a more front-biased setup.

This makes the dive planes useful for Supra owners running additional rear aerodynamic components and looking to maintain a more balanced front-to-rear aerodynamic package.

Ventus Aero Package Compatibility

The Verus Engineering Dual Dive Plane Kit was developed to work with the company's Ventus 1, Ventus 2, and Ventus 3 Aero Packages for the A90 Mk5 Toyota Supra.

The dive planes can be used as part of a broader aerodynamic setup to help balance front and rear downforce and fine-tune the vehicle's aerodynamic behavior.

Installation

The Verus Engineering Dual Dive Plane Kit uses a simple, non-invasive 3M VHB double-sided tape installation.

Each dive plane includes a specifically sized piece of 3M VHB tape, while the included installation template helps position the components accurately on the Supra's front bumper.
