Description
The Verus Engineering X5K Hood Louver Kit is designed to reduce engine bay temperatures and pressure on the Subaru WRX/STI by providing a controlled path for hot air to escape from underneath the hood. Improving airflow out of the engine bay helps increase airflow efficiency through the radiator and other cooling components, improving overall cooling stack efficiency.
By reducing pressure buildup underneath the hood, the X5K Hood Louver Kit can also reduce front-end aerodynamic lift and provide a slight increase in front-end downforce. This makes the kit a functional upgrade for Subaru WRX/STI owners looking to improve cooling performance while also gaining an aerodynamic benefit at speed.
Verus Engineering uses CFD analysis to strategically position the louvers in an area of low pressure. This placement improves airflow evacuation and increases the functional effectiveness of the hood vents.
Each louver includes a wicker, which further improves air extraction from the engine bay. The kit also adds an aggressive, motorsport-inspired appearance to the hood without sacrificing its primary cooling and aerodynamic purpose.
Optional rain guards are available for additional protection of engine bay components in wet conditions.

Aerodynamic & Cooling Science
The Verus Engineering X5K Hood Louver Kit was developed using CFD analysis to identify a low-pressure area on the Subaru WRX/STI hood where the louvers can operate most effectively.
Positioning the louvers within this low-pressure region encourages hot air to evacuate from the engine bay. This improves airflow through the radiator and cooling system, helping reduce underhood temperatures and improve overall cooling efficiency.
The louvers also relieve pressure buildup inside the engine bay, commonly associated with hood flutter during high-speed driving. Reducing this pressure can decrease front-end lift and provide a slight increase in front-end downforce.
For maximum airflow evacuation, Verus Engineering recommends using the supplied wickers. The wickers are designed to increase the effectiveness of the louvers and improve extraction of hot, high-pressure air from the engine compartment.
Installation & Maintenance
The X5K Hood Louver Kit includes two cut templates to assist with accurately positioning and cutting the Subaru WRX/STI hood during installation.
The louvers are secured using stainless steel flush clinch studs and stainless serrated nuts. This allows the louver assemblies to be removed when necessary for cleaning and maintenance.
