Performance and Aerodynamic Design

The Verus Engineering 300mm rear wing was developed specifically for Porsche enthusiasts looking to substantially increase rear-end downforce for track use. The wing and supporting aerodynamic package were developed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to optimize aerodynamic performance and vehicle balance.

The airfoil profile was analyzed using the ANSYS Adjoint solver and refined through an iterative aerodynamic development process. This allowed Verus Engineering to improve the wing's efficiency while maintaining the high downforce levels required for aggressive track driving.

The V1X rear wing was positioned and developed to complement the rest of the Verus Engineering Ventus 2 aerodynamic package. The Ventus 2 system is designed to produce a significant increase in downforce compared with the factory vehicle, helping improve overall aerodynamic performance and reduce lap times.

Real-world testing closely correlated with the CFD results. Back-to-back testing on a relatively stock GT4 showed a lap-time reduction of approximately 2.5 seconds at Thunderhill and 3.3 seconds at Laguna Seca with the wing set to only 4 degrees of angle of attack during testing.

The wing is designed to install similarly to the OEM rear wing, allowing the Porsche GT4 to gain substantial aerodynamic performance without permanent vehicle modifications.

Construction

The rear wing uses 2x2 twill, 3K pre-preg carbon fiber construction with a carbon inner rib for additional structural strength. The complete wing weighs under 9 lbs, providing a high-strength, lightweight aerodynamic solution.

The Swan Neck mounting system uses CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum mounts and uprights. The uprights were FEA analyzed to verify structural strength while keeping unnecessary weight to a minimum. The combination of lightweight carbon fiber construction and rigid aluminum mounting hardware provides the strength required for high-speed track use.
