Description
The Verus Engineering Hood Louver Kit for the Subaru WRX/STI GR/GV is designed to reduce underhood heat and pressure while providing a functional, purpose-built solution that integrates cleanly with the factory hood.
During development, Verus Engineering chose to utilize the OEM hood to reduce installation complexity and overall system cost. CFD pressure analysis was used to identify low-pressure areas on the hood where the louvers could most effectively evacuate hot air from the engine bay.
In-house scan data was also used to design the louvers around the contours of the factory hood, creating a functional aerodynamic component with a clean, integrated appearance.
The result is a purposely positioned, designed, and tested hood louver system for WRX/STI owners looking to improve engine-bay heat evacuation, reduce underhood pressure, and enhance front-end aerodynamic performance.

Aerodynamic Science
The Verus Engineering Hood Louver Kit was developed using CFD pressure analysis to identify an area of low pressure on the GR/GV WRX/STI hood.
Placing the louvers in a low-pressure region allows the pressure difference between the engine bay and the exterior airflow to help evacuate hot air from underneath the hood. This improves the effectiveness of the hood vents and helps remove heat generated within the engine bay and cooling system.
Reducing underhood pressure also helps address pressure buildup inside the engine compartment, which can contribute to hood flutter at higher speeds.
The reduction in underhood pressure provides an additional aerodynamic benefit by contributing to a slight increase in front-end downforce.
Cooling and Heat Evacuation
Hot air trapped inside the engine bay can negatively affect the overall thermal environment of the engine and cooling system. The Verus Engineering Hood Louvers provide a controlled path for this hot air to escape.
By placing the louvers in an area of low external pressure, the system promotes airflow evacuation from the engine bay and helps reduce underhood temperatures.
The supplied wickers are highly recommended because they help increase the evacuation effect through the hood louvers.
Hood Flutter Reduction
At speed, pressure can build underneath the hood as airflow enters the engine bay through the front of the vehicle.
The Verus Engineering Hood Louver Kit helps relieve this pressure by providing a path for air to escape through the hood. Reducing this pressure buildup can help reduce hood flutter, improving stability and confidence during high-speed driving.
OEM Hood Integration
Instead of requiring a separate replacement hood, the Verus Engineering system was developed around the factory WRX/STI hood.
In-house scan data was used to follow the OE hood contours, while CFD pressure analysis determined the most effective louver placement.
This approach allows the louvers to provide functional cooling and aerodynamic benefits while maintaining a design that integrates with the factory bodywork.
Wickers
Each kit includes left- and right-hand wickers designed to improve airflow evacuation through the hood louvers.
Verus Engineering highly recommends using the supplied wickers to increase the effectiveness of the louver system.
Installation and Serviceability
The kit includes two cut templates to aid with positioning and installation of the hood louvers.
The louvers use stainless steel flush clinch studs and serrated nuts, allowing the vents to be removed when necessary for cleaning and maintenance.
The kit is available with a black powder-coated finish for durability or raw aluminum, depending on the desired finish.
