Description

The Verus Engineering Dive Plane (Canard) Kit for the Porsche 987 Cayman is designed to increase front-end downforce and improve high-speed aerodynamic balance without requiring the front splitter to be moved farther forward.

Developed using state-of-the-art aerodynamic analysis and ANSYS CFD, the dive planes were optimized to extract additional performance from the available build volume. The result is a functional aerodynamic upgrade designed to increase front-end grip while helping reduce lift.

The dive planes are particularly useful for Porsche 987 Cayman builds equipped with a large rear wing or rear diffuser. By adding aerodynamic load at the front of the vehicle, they help shift the overall aero balance forward and can be used to fine-tune the vehicle's handling characteristics.

The design also helps manage airflow around the front of the vehicle by sealing the sides and assisting with air evacuation from the front wheel wells.

Aerodynamic Science

Properly designed dive planes, also known as canards, can increase front-end grip and cornering speed by generating additional front downforce while helping reduce lift in other areas of the vehicle.

Verus Engineering utilized ANSYS CFD software during development to optimize the dive plane geometry and maximize aerodynamic performance within the available space.

In back-to-back testing with GearOnePerformance, Verus Engineering reported an increase in corner speeds of approximately 5–6 MPH with the dive planes installed alone. The driver also reported a more balanced setup and reduced understeer through corners.

These results demonstrate the potential of properly designed front aerodynamic devices to improve both measurable cornering performance and vehicle balance.

Ventus Aerodynamic Packages

The Verus Engineering Dive Plane Kit is part of both the Ventus 1 and Ventus 2 aerodynamic packages for the Porsche 987 Cayman.

The Ventus 1 package provides a balanced improvement in aerodynamic performance, combining the dive planes with other aerodynamic components to increase downforce while maintaining a manageable drag increase.

The more aggressive Ventus 2 package significantly increases the aerodynamic downforce generated by the Porsche 987 Cayman. The package was developed to maintain a safe aerodynamic balance at speed while improving handling and allowing the vehicle to make better use of available tire grip.

Ventus 2 is primarily designed for track-focused applications, while still being suitable for vehicles that are driven on the street.

Installation

The kit includes both 3M VHB double-sided tape and mechanical hardware, allowing the dive planes to be installed using either mounting method.

Two installation templates are included to assist with accurate positioning of the dive planes on the vehicle.
