Description

The Verus Engineering Dive Plane (Canard) Kit for the 2022+ Toyota GR86 adds functional front-end downforce without requiring the front splitter to extend farther forward. Designed to improve front-end aerodynamic performance while maintaining a practical vehicle profile, these dive planes help generate additional downforce and reduce lift around the front wheel wells.

Verus Engineering focused on generating a strong aerodynamic vortex from the dive plane. This vortex helps reduce lift within the wheel well while also generating downforce directly from the dive plane itself.

Using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) during the research and development process, Verus Engineering optimized the dive plane design to extract additional aerodynamic performance from the available build volume. This allows the kit to generate increased downforce without requiring a larger or more intrusive aerodynamic component.

The kit is designed for GR86 owners looking to shift the aerodynamic balance forward, making it useful for balancing a larger rear wing or rear diffuser.

What Do Dive Planes Do?

Dive planes, also known as canards, are aerodynamic devices mounted toward the front corners of a vehicle. When properly designed, they can increase front-end grip by generating additional downforce while also helping reduce lift in other areas around the front of the vehicle.

The Verus Engineering dive planes are designed to generate a strong vortex that interacts with the airflow around the front wheel well. This helps reduce lift within the wheel well while simultaneously producing downforce on the dive plane itself.

The result is improved front-end aerodynamic performance without requiring the front splitter to be moved farther forward.

Aerodynamic Science

Verus Engineering utilized advanced CFD analysis during the development of the GR86 Dive Plane Kit to improve aerodynamic performance within the available build volume.

The CFD development process allowed Verus Engineering to extract more aerodynamic performance from the physical size of the dive plane, increasing the amount of downforce generated while maintaining a practical design.

The dive planes also help manage airflow around the front wheel well by helping seal the side of the vehicle and evacuate air from the wheel-well area.

These aerodynamic effects work together to improve front-end grip and can contribute to increased cornering performance.

Aero Balance & Rear Aero Compatibility

One of the primary purposes of the Dive Plane Kit is to shift the vehicle's aerodynamic balance forward.

Adding a large rear wing or rear diffuser can significantly increase rear aerodynamic load. Without sufficient front-end downforce, the vehicle's aerodynamic balance can become rear-biased.

The Verus Engineering dive planes provide an additional method of increasing front-end aerodynamic load, allowing drivers to fine-tune the vehicle toward a more forward-biased aerodynamic balance without relying solely on a larger front splitter.

Ventus 1 Aerodynamic Package

The Verus Engineering Dive Plane Kit is part of the Ventus 1 aerodynamic package for the Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ.

Ventus 1 is designed to provide a modest increase in overall downforce without a large increase in aerodynamic drag. The package was developed to provide a safe and balanced aerodynamic setup at speed, improving high-speed handling and driver confidence.

The Ventus 1 package helps the GR86 make better use of its available tire grip on the track while also improving confidence during street driving.

Although Ventus 1 is more heavily geared toward track-focused applications, the package can still be utilized on a daily-driven vehicle.

Installation

The Dive Plane Kit is designed for straightforward installation using either the included 3M VHB double-sided tape or bolt-on mounting.

Two installation templates are included to help ensure accurate positioning of the left- and right-hand dive planes.

Verus Engineering provides detailed installation manuals and installation videos for the majority of its products to assist with the installation process.
