Description

The Verus Engineering Street Side Splitter Kit is designed to complete the appearance and aerodynamic package of the Scion FR-S, Subaru BRZ, and Toyota GT86. Combining functional aerodynamics with a clean, integrated design, the kit features a horizontal side splitter and vertical underbody side skirt designed to reduce high-pressure airflow reaching the underside of the vehicle.

By reducing high-pressure air spilling underneath the chassis, the side splitters help reduce vehicle lift and drag while increasing aerodynamic efficiency. The system is designed to provide measurable aerodynamic improvements while maintaining a practical installation for street and track-driven vehicles.

Unlike designs that require mounting directly into the vehicle's underbody, the Verus Engineering Street Side Splitters attach to the pinch weld, providing a less invasive mounting solution.

During development, Verus Engineering utilized state-of-the-art aerodynamic analysis software to extract additional performance from the available design volume. In-house scan data was also used to achieve a near-OEM fit and finish.

The side splitter system is also adjustable, allowing the splitter and side skirt to be positioned inward, outward, upward, and downward to fine-tune fitment and installation.

Aerodynamic Science

The Verus Engineering Street Side Splitter Kit is designed to control airflow along the sides of the vehicle and reduce the amount of high-pressure air reaching the underside of the chassis.

High-pressure air underneath a vehicle contributes to aerodynamic lift. By helping keep this high-pressure airflow from spilling underneath the car, the side splitters reduce the pressure responsible for vehicle lift.

The horizontal side splitter works together with the vertical underbody side skirt to manage airflow along the vehicle's sides. This allows the system to produce additional aerodynamic load while also reducing drag.

Measured Aerodynamic Performance

Verus Engineering's aerodynamic testing found that the Street Side Splitters reduce vehicle lift by 11 points and drag by 2 points.

Expressed in coefficient terms:

  • Coefficient of Lift (cL): Reduced by 0.011
  • Coefficient of Drag (cD): Reduced by 0.002

These results indicate that the side splitter system produces additional aerodynamic load while simultaneously reducing aerodynamic drag.

Side Splitter Design

The Verus Engineering Street Side Splitters use a two-part aerodynamic concept consisting of a horizontal side splitter and a vertical underbody side skirt.

The vertical skirt is constructed from durable, abrasion-resistant plastic to withstand the demands of street and track use. Sheet aluminum brackets provide structural support, while billet 6061-T6 aluminum pinch-weld mounts provide the mounting interface.

The adjustable mounting system allows the side splitter and skirt to be positioned in multiple directions, providing flexibility during installation and allowing the system to be properly positioned relative to the vehicle.

Ventus 2 Aerodynamic Package

The Verus Engineering Street Side Splitter Kit forms part of the Ventus 2 aerodynamic package for the FR-S / BRZ / GT86 platform.

Ventus 2 is designed to significantly reduce factory vehicle lift while maintaining an efficient and balanced aerodynamic setup. The side splitters contribute to this package by controlling high-pressure airflow around the sides and underside of the vehicle.

Installation

The Street Side Splitter Kit features a bolt-on pinch-weld mounting design. Rather than requiring direct mounting into the vehicle's underbody, the system attaches to the pinch weld for a less invasive installation.

The adjustable mounting system allows the side splitter and vertical skirt to be adjusted inward, outward, upward, and downward to achieve the desired positioning.
