Description

The Verus Engineering Oil Cooler Kit for the Mk5 Toyota Supra is designed to dramatically improve oil and coolant temperature control during demanding driving, track use, and high-power applications. Under severe conditions, the factory cooling system can become overwhelmed, especially when additional engine power and extended track sessions increase the thermal load.

The factory Mk5 Supra uses a water-to-oil heat exchanger mounted on the engine block to control engine oil temperatures. While effective for normal driving, this system transfers heat between the engine oil and coolant. Under heavy use, both systems can become increasingly stressed.

The Verus Engineering Oil Cooler Kit replaces the factory water-to-oil heat exchanger with a dedicated air-to-oil cooling system. By separating engine oil cooling from the coolant system, the kit helps reduce oil temperatures while also reducing the thermal load placed on the engine coolant system. This allows the Supra to maintain more consistent oil viscosity, improve overall cooling efficiency, and remain on track for longer periods.

Using vehicle scan data, Verus Engineering developed the complete system with an OEM-style fit and finish. Special attention was given to cooler placement to provide excellent airflow while minimizing the impact on the vehicle's aerodynamic performance. The kit also utilizes the Supra's OEM air duct design from the factory heat exchanger area for a clean, integrated installation.

The engine block oil cooler adapter plate is proudly machined in-house by Verus Engineering using 5-axis CNC machining equipment, providing a precise and durable connection between the engine and the air-to-oil cooling system.

Through on-track testing with a variety of drivers, Verus Engineering found that the Oil Cooler Kit effectively reduces both oil and coolant temperatures while improving the overall thermal efficiency of the Mk5 Toyota Supra.

Engineering and Thermal Performance

High-performance engines generate substantial heat during hard acceleration, extended track sessions, and other demanding driving conditions. As engine oil temperatures rise, oil viscosity can degrade, reducing the oil's ability to properly lubricate critical engine components and potentially increasing wear.

The Mk5 Toyota Supra's factory water-to-oil heat exchanger uses engine coolant to regulate oil temperature. While this arrangement works well under normal operating conditions, extended high-load driving can place significant thermal demands on both the oil and coolant systems.

Verus Engineering developed this Oil Cooler Kit specifically for Supra owners pushing their vehicles harder on the track. By replacing the factory water-to-oil heat exchanger with a dedicated air-to-oil cooler, the system allows the engine oil to release heat directly into the airflow rather than transferring additional heat into the engine coolant.

The dedicated air-to-oil cooler is positioned in an area that receives strong airflow while maintaining an OEM-plus appearance and minimizing aerodynamic disruption. This allows the system to effectively control oil temperatures while simultaneously reducing the workload on the factory cooling system.

Maintaining more consistent oil temperatures helps preserve oil viscosity during extended high-load operation, supporting consistent engine lubrication and thermal performance. The result is a more capable cooling system for track-day enthusiasts, high-power Supra builds, and serious performance applications.

Installation

The Verus Engineering Oil Cooler Kit is designed as an OEM-plus installation using vehicle-specific components and mounting locations. The kit includes the oil cooler, mounting bracket, machined adapter plate, preassembled stainless braided lines, fittings, and necessary installation hardware.

The system is designed to provide a clean installation while utilizing the factory-style air ducting and maintaining the integrated appearance of the Mk5 Supra engine bay and cooling system.
