Description

The Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ deliver impressive performance straight from the factory, but the FA24 Boxer-4 engine can experience significant oil pressure drops during aggressive track driving, particularly through sustained right-hand corners. For enthusiasts who regularly push their vehicles on the circuit, maintaining consistent oil pressure is critical for protecting internal engine components.

The Verus Engineering 3D Printed Aluminum Oil Pan was developed specifically for the FA24-powered Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 to address this issue. Its integrated baffling system helps keep engine oil positioned around the oil pickup during high-G cornering, helping maintain more consistent oil pressure when the engine is under demanding conditions.

The oil pan also increases overall oil capacity, allowing additional oil to be used without the risk of overfilling the factory pan. The greater capacity provides additional thermal mass, helping improve resistance to oil overheating during extended track sessions.

Using detailed 3D scan data, Verus Engineering designed the oil pan with an organic shape that follows the contours of the engine bay and exhaust header. The design maximizes available space while maintaining compatibility with the OEM exhaust header and other confirmed aftermarket header configurations.

Through extensive on-track testing and user data, Verus Engineering observed oil pressure drops as low as 23 PSI with the OEM oil pan during hard circuit use. Testing with the Verus Engineering oil pan demonstrated more stable oil pressure, helping reduce the risk of premature bearing wear and engine damage associated with oil starvation.

Development & Testing

Verus Engineering initially approached the FA24 oil pan design after identifying the limited oil volume available in the factory configuration. Early development versions focused primarily on increasing capacity before the integrated baffling system was incorporated.

Through continued development, 3D scanning, on-track testing, and data collection from test vehicles, Verus Engineering refined the design into a high-capacity oil pan with integrated oil-control features specifically intended for aggressive driving.

Testing with the OEM oil pan recorded oil pressure drops as low as 23 PSI during hard track use. The Verus Engineering oil pan demonstrated improved oil pressure stability under similar conditions, helping provide additional protection against oil starvation and the resulting risk of premature bearing wear or engine failure.
