Description

The Verus Engineering Hood Louver Kit for the Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ is a functional cooling and aerodynamic upgrade designed to reduce underhood heat and pressure while improving cooling system efficiency and front-end aerodynamic performance.

Cooling Performance

The Verus Engineering Hood Louver is designed to improve the evacuation of hot air from the engine bay.

During operation, heat builds up underneath the hood, while pressure can also accumulate as air passes through the cooling system. Providing an effective exit path for this air helps improve the pressure differential across the cooling stack, allowing airflow to move more efficiently through the vehicle's cooling system.

Verus Engineering's CFD analysis and on-track testing showed that the louver can dramatically reduce underhood temperatures, making it a valuable upgrade for both street-driven and track-focused GR86 and BRZ applications.

Lower underhood temperatures can also improve the operating environment for components that are sensitive to excessive heat, potentially supporting improved component longevity.

Aerodynamic Benefits

Air pressure underneath the hood can contribute to front-end lift. By allowing high-pressure air to escape through the hood, the Verus Engineering louver reduces the pressure acting upward on the hood.

This reduction in underhood pressure helps reduce front-end lift and provides additional front-end aerodynamic load. The result is improved front-end grip and greater aerodynamic stability at speed.

CFD-Optimized Placement

Verus Engineering used CFD analysis to identify a low-pressure location on the hood where the louver could maximize underhood air evacuation.

The louver's shape was also developed to encourage air to exit the engine bay efficiently. Combining the optimized location with the purpose-designed louver geometry allows the system to provide both cooling and aerodynamic benefits.

OEM-Inspired Fit and Structural Considerations

Vehicle scan data was used during development to create an OEM-style fit and finish that follows the contours of the Toyota GR86 and Subaru BRZ hood.

Verus Engineering also took special care during development to position the louver where it would require minimal removal of the hood's existing structural material. This helps retain the OEM hood's structural integrity while providing the necessary opening for hot-air evacuation.
