Welcome to the Valvetronic Designs cat-back exhaust system for the F87 M2 Competition platform—the ultimate solution to the S55 sound problem. For years, enthusiasts have searched for a way to eliminate the buzzy and raspy tones that these cars produce from the factory. The M2 Competition suffers from the same sound shortcomings as its bigger brother, the F8X M3/M4, so we set out to unlock its hidden sound potential.
This full cat-back system features a 2.75" equal-length mid-section with an H-pipe configuration. After traveling through the H-pipe, the exhaust merges into a 3.5-inch axle-back, creating a smooth and refined exhaust tone throughout the entire rev range.
- Valves Open: Exhaust gases exit unrestricted through the passenger-side tips, producing maximum volume and aggression.
- Valves Closed: The exhaust is routed through a quad-chambered muffler and exits through the driver-side tips, resulting in a subdued, daily-drivable tone—perfect for avoiding unwanted attention.
This system mounts directly to factory points for a hassle-free bolt-on installation. It’s time to make your M2 Competition sound the way it was always meant to.

Important Notes for S55 Owners:
Unresonated Design & 2K Rasp:
- If running race/free-flow downpipes, you may experience the infamous “2K RPM rasp” during low-RPM shifts.
- For the best sound refinement, we recommend 200-cell high-flow cats—they increase volume while maintaining a smooth, aggressive tone without excessive rasp.
Initial Batch of V2 Systems:
- Some early V2 systems require a minor modification for perfect tip fitment.
- This is a simple adjustment that can be done by the installing shop or even yourself.
