Description
The Infinity Design VW Golf MK7 GTI & R Intake is engineered to maximize airflow while maintaining controlled intake temperatures for consistent performance. When designing an intake system for the Volkswagen Golf, intake temperature is one of the most important factors to consider.
Unlike many open-style intake systems that allow hot engine bay air to enter the intake, the Infinity Design intake uses a fully sealed configuration with frontal inlet air duct housings. The system has been meticulously designed to allow maximum airflow while creating an effective seal that helps keep intake air temperatures at their lowest possible point.
Lower intake temperatures help maintain denser intake air and support consistent engine performance. The ECU also monitors intake air temperature and can adjust temperature compensation parameters, potentially reducing ignition timing, power output, throttle response, and target boost when intake temperatures become excessive.
The intake tube uses a single Venturi tube designed to smooth and optimize airflow. By reducing turbulence and making it easier for the engine to draw in air, the system improves throttle response and can increase horsepower and torque. The design also supports faster turbocharger spool-up times.

Design & Development
For VW Golf intake design, intake temperatures are a critical factor in maintaining consistent performance.
The majority of intake systems on the market use open designs that allow high-temperature engine bay air to enter the intake system. This can have two significant negative effects.
The first and most commonly understood effect is that hotter engine bay air is less dense and contains less oxygen, which can naturally result in reduced power.
The second effect is less commonly understood. The ECU detects higher intake air temperatures and can adjust its temperature compensation tables. These adjustments can reduce ignition timing, which can have a significant effect on power output, throttle response, and target boost.
This effect is often not clearly represented during dyno testing of open intake systems because many tests are performed with the vehicle bonnet open.
The Infinity Design intake is fully sealed using frontal inlet air duct housings. The system has been meticulously designed to provide maximum airflow while creating an effective seal that keeps intake air temperatures at their lowest point and supports the best possible performance.
The intake tube consists of a single Venturi tube designed to smooth the airflow. This improves throttle response and can increase horsepower and torque. By reducing the amount of effort required for the engine to draw in air, the system can help generate additional performance.
The intake design also allows for faster turbocharger spool-up times.
High-Flow Air Filter & Intake Temperatures
The Infinity Design intake uses a bespoke short-stack, high-surface-area air filter that is larger than conventional cone filter designs currently available on the market.
The filter features a huge 170 mm (6 3/4") opening and is specifically designed to take full advantage of the intake tube by altering the direction of airflow toward the outer walls.
By positioning the air filter in front of the inlet tube, the system achieves the largest possible velocity stack, helping optimize airflow into the intake system and toward the turbocharger.
Performance Testing
On-road testing of a stock vehicle demonstrated noticeable and measurable improvements in performance and throttle response.
Dyno testing also showed a positive and measurable performance difference. Dyno graphs are to be posted.
