Description
The GSC R2 Camshafts are the definitive racing profile for the 2024–2026 Ford Mustang 5.0L Coyote (Gen 4). Unlike "drop-in" street cams, the R2 is a dedicated race profile engineered specifically for high-flow, ported-head combinations. If your build is focused on serious track work and maximizing top-end power, the R2 delivers the aggressive lift and duration needed to drive the Gen 4 Coyote to an 8,100 RPM peak.
CNC-machined from proprietary, U.S.-sourced forged billet blanks and treated with GSC’s BLACK ISE surface finish, these cams are built to withstand the stresses of high-RPM racing while minimizing friction and wear.
High-RPM Race Performance
-
Effective RPM Band: 5,800–8,500 RPM (with an ~8,100 RPM horsepower peak).
-
Ported Head Optimization: Events are specifically modeled for the airflow characteristics of ported Gen 4 heads and correct rocker geometry.
-
N/A Induction Pairing: For maximum performance in naturally aspirated setups, GSC recommends pairing these cams with high-flow aftermarket intake manifolds (e.g., Cobra Jet).
-
Fuel Compatibility: Fully ready for Pump Gas, Race Fuel, or High-Ethanol blends (E85/E90).
Engineering & Manufacturing Highlights
-
Valve Spring Requirement: Due to the aggressive profile, an upgrade is required. These must be paired with GSC-matched springs and titanium retainers.
-
DI/HPFP Integrated Logic: The high-pressure fuel pump lobe retains OEM stroke and timing geometry, ensuring seamless compatibility with factory and upgraded Direct Injection pumps.
-
VCT Managed Phasing: Compatible with Variable Cam Timing; however, a professional tuner-managed phasing window is recommended to optimize the area under the curve.
-
American-Made Quality: Forged from bearing-grade steel in the USA to tolerances significantly tighter than OEM standards.
Fitment & Installation Notes
-
Vehicle Application: 2024, 2025, and 2026 Mustang GT (5.0L) and Mustang Dark Horse.
-
Mandatory Tuning: A custom ECU recalibration is required to manage the aggressive profile and RPM potential.
-
Clearance Verification: While the full phaser range is typically safe with OEM pistons and deck heights, GSC recommends always verifying piston-to-valve clearance with your specific head/gasket combination.
-
Installation Best Practices: Refer to the GSC install sheet for specific torque sequences. Ensure proper priming of oiling and fuel systems, and perform a thorough inspection of the HPFP follower during reassembly.
-
Valvetrain Safety: Ensure your spring installed height and coil bind clearances are checked against your tuner’s intended rev limit.
Note: The R2 profile is designed for race-track applications where the engine consistently operates above 5,800 RPM. For daily-driven applications using stock as-cast heads, consider the GSC S1 profile.
