Description
The CANchecked R5X MINI Cooper MFD28 Multi Function Display – 2.8" Gen2 is a vehicle-specific digital display designed to provide real-time monitoring of engine and vehicle data in compatible MINI R-Series applications.
The MFD28 Gen2 combines a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen, direct CAN Bus communication, customizable display layouts, expandable sensor inputs, diagnostic functions, performance measurement, and data logging in a compact dashboard-mounted package.
The vehicle-specific ventilation insert integrates the display into the factory air vent while maintaining airflow through the vent. The system is designed for both left- and right-hand-drive vehicles.

Display & Customization
The MFD28 Gen2 features a capacitive touchscreen interface that allows users to navigate between pages using intuitive swipe gestures.
The display can be customized with personalized layouts, different vehicle data parameters, custom images, and startup animations. This allows the interface to be configured around the driver's preferred information and display style.
The vehicle-specific ventilation insert integrates the display into the dashboard while retaining the functionality of the original air vent.
Sensor & Data Integration
The MFD28 Gen2 communicates directly with the vehicle through the CAN Bus, allowing access to in-depth vehicle data on supported configurations.
Up to four analog sensors can be connected directly to the display. An ethanol sensor can also be connected on supported configurations, providing additional monitoring capability beyond the vehicle's standard CAN data.
The display also supports custom CAN messages and CAN switching, allowing it to function as an interface for sending user-defined messages to the vehicle's CAN network.
Performance & Diagnostic Functions
The integrated Performance Meter allows acceleration times to be measured for 0–100, 100–200, and 0–200 without requiring additional hardware.
Supported vehicle configurations can also provide DTC read and clear functionality for the engine control unit, transmission, ABS, and all-wheel-drive systems.
Automatic display dimming is available on supported applications and can synchronize with the vehicle's instrument panel lighting.
Vehicle Compatibility & Data Availability
CANchecked displays communicate directly with supported vehicles through the CAN Bus. CAN Bus became widely available in production vehicles from approximately 2008 onward, but available data varies depending on the vehicle manufacturer, model, model year, installed control units, and software version.
For the compatible MINI R55, R56, R57, R58, and R59 applications, available parameters and functions may vary depending on the specific vehicle configuration and supported CAN communication protocols.
Many vehicles provide only limited information through standard OBD diagnostics. CANchecked dedicated integrations can access additional vehicle data directly through internal vehicle communication networks where supported.

Installation
The MFD28 Gen2 is integrated into a vehicle-specific ventilation insert for LHD/RHD vehicles. The supplied connection cable provides the required vehicle interface while the display is designed to maintain airflow through the vent.
The kit includes the display, vehicle-specific insert, connection cable, USB cable, SD card, SD card adapter, and anti-reflection display foil.
The system is designed for straightforward installation without requiring modification to the vehicle.
