Description
STILLEN proudly introduces the Active Brake Cooling Kit for the Nissan R35 GT-R, developed to dramatically reduce brake temperatures, improve braking consistency, and extend brake component life during aggressive street driving and track use.
This system was engineered during the development of the STILLEN GT-R Targa Rally Car, working directly with AP Racing engineers, and was a critical component in the world’s first aftermarket Carbon Ceramic Brake Kit for the GT-R.
The result is a track-tested, data-backed cooling solution capable of reducing rotor temperatures by over 200°F under extreme braking conditions.
VEHICLE FITMENT
This brake cooling kit fits ONLY:
-
2009–2015 Nissan GT-R (R35)
Compatible with:
- Factory iron brake rotors
- STILLEN / AP Racing iron brake upgrades
- STILLEN Carbon Ceramic Matrix Brake Kits
Not compatible with other Nissan models
Why Active Brake Cooling Matters
Brake systems—especially carbon ceramic brakes—operate best within a specific temperature window. While they perform well cold, their true advantage is revealed during repeated high-temperature braking. However, excessive heat can reduce braking performance, increase wear, and compromise reliability.
During development, AP Racing engineers explicitly recommended external forced-air cooling, stating:
Even hot engine bay air is significantly cooler than the heat radiating from brake rotors.
STILLEN followed this guidance precisely.
Proven Test Results
STILLEN conducted real-world testing at El Toro Air Force Base, using:
- Temperature sensors on each rotor and caliper
- Side-by-side testing (cooling enabled on one side only)
- Multiple 140–0 MPH braking runs
- Continuous hot laps
- Heat-reactive caliper temperature stickers
Results:
- Over 200°F reduction in rotor temperatures
- Significantly cooler calipers
- Improved braking consistency during repeated hard stops
Front Brake Cooling Kit – What’s Included
- Weather-resistant electric cooling fan
- Custom mounting brackets
- Complete wiring harness & switch
- Polyurethane air diversion splitter
- Direct airflow to front rotors and calipers
Rear Brake Cooling Kit – What’s Included
- Polyurethane air scoops
- Accordion ducting
- Polyurethane air funnel
- Complete mounting hardware
- Utilizes factory NACA ducts in the underbody
Front vs Rear Cooling – What STILLEN Recommends
-
Front brake cooling: Strongly recommended for all track-driven GT-Rs
-
Rear brake cooling: Most beneficial when VDC is enabled & less critical with VDC disabled (as rear brakes generate less heat)
Since 99% of GT-R owners drive with VDC ON, STILLEN recommends the rear brake cooling kit for optimal performance and brake longevity.
Key Benefits
- Reduces brake rotor temperatures by 200°F+
- Improves braking consistency under repeated hard use
- Extends rotor and pad life
- Ideal for track days, time attack, and aggressive driving
- Works with iron and carbon ceramic brake systems
- Developed with direct input from AP Racing
- Tested under extreme real-world conditions
Designed for Serious GT-R Drivers
Whether you’re running factory brakes, upgraded iron rotors, or a full carbon ceramic setup, the STILLEN Active Brake Cooling Kit provides the thermal control your GT-R needs to brake harder, longer, and more consistently—lap after lap.
This is functional motorsport engineering, not cosmetic ducting.
