Description
BMW and MINI vehicles equipped with V8 engines and manufactured from June 2020 onward feature factory-locked Bosch ECUs/DMEs, which prevent standard ECU remapping and performance tuning. The FEMTO Unlock Service for BMW & MINI V8 (Non-M) provides a proven solution to unlock these ECUs, enabling full access for performance software upgrades.
This service is designed specifically for regular BMW (non-M) models with V8 engines, including vehicles such as the M550i, M850i, and M50i/M60i X models. Once unlocked, the ECU will be fully compatible with PSR Parts Performance Custom Tuning, Bootmod3, or MHD ECU remaps.
FEMTO Unlock Process

The ECU/DME must be physically removed from the vehicle

You may ship the ECU to us or bring the vehicle to our workshop for inspection

We check whether the ECU is locked or unlocked

If locked, the ECU is sent to FEMTO in Finland for unlocking

The ECU/DME is returned, unlocked and ready for tuning
⚠️ Important: The vehicle cannot be driven while the ECU is removed.
Turnaround Time

Typical processing time is 3–5 working days after express shipping to Finland

As this service is performed by FEMTO (third-party), turnaround time cannot be guaranteed
