The Neuspeed NM Engineering HI-FLO Air Intake Kit for MINI models equipped with the N18 1.6L turbocharged engine offers a significant upgrade over the restrictive OEM intake. Featuring an innovative open-air-box design, this system provides a 360-degree unrestricted air source that delivers cooler and more abundant airflow than the factory sealed airbox, which uses a flat filter and tube-fed air path.
During extensive research and development, temperature probes installed around the engine compartment confirmed that the intake air temperature inside the open-air-box matches ambient temperature once the vehicle surpasses 20 mph. Additionally, MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor data recorded higher air volume passing through the intake system compared to the OEM setup. This means the NM Engineering kit delivers a consistent supply of cooler air at all speeds with a more efficient and unlimited air source, translating to improved engine performance and responsiveness.
The kit includes a pre-oiled, cleanable air filter for lasting performance and easy maintenance. For those who prefer less upkeep, a dry paper filter option made of the same material as factory panel filters is also available. This disposable filter provides comparable performance and is designed for straightforward replacement when dirty.
Notably, MINI made improvements in 2011 on the turbo intake tube by switching from soft rubber tubing to a rigid ABS plastic tube, similar to the aluminum/silicone intake versions NM Engineering offers for 2007–2010 MCS and JCW models. As a result, the N18 HI-FLO kit omits the inlet tube to keep the price more economical.
