Description
The Mishimoto Baffled Oil Catch Can for the 2022+ Subaru WRX is designed to help separate oil and other contaminants from blow-by gases before they are recirculated through the intake system. The FA24DIT engine uses direct injection, making the intake valves susceptible to carbon buildup from oil vapors and other contaminants introduced through the PCV system.
As blow-by gases pass through the Mishimoto catch can, they flow through a 50-micron bronze filter and an internal air diverter baffle. This filtration and separation process helps capture oil particles and contaminants, allowing them to condense and collect inside the canister instead of continuing toward the intake system.
Unlike many heated air-oil separator systems, the Mishimoto catch can is not heated. This allows blow-by contaminants, including oil vapors and contaminated fuel vapors, to condense and remain captured inside the can rather than being routed back into the engine's oil system.
The kit features a billet 6061 aluminum catch can, black CNC-machined aluminum fittings, a vehicle-specific powder-coated steel mounting bracket, pre-formed application-specific hoses, and all required installation hardware. The washable design allows the catch can to be cleaned and reused without replacing the filtration element.

How It Works
Blow-by gases containing oil particles and other contaminants are routed through the PCV system and into the Mishimoto catch can. Inside the can, the gases pass through the 50-micron bronze filter and air diverter baffle, helping separate oil and contaminants from the airflow.
The separated particles condense inside the canister and are collected instead of continuing through the intake system. The filtered air can then continue through the PCV system.
Catch Can vs. Air-Oil Separator
Unlike many heated air-oil separator (AOS) systems, the Mishimoto catch can is not heated. This allows blow-by contaminants to condense inside the canister rather than being routed back into the engine's oil system.
The catch can therefore captures the separated blow-by contaminants for later service and disposal rather than returning them to the engine.
