Design
The Infinity Design Turbo Inlet is engineered as a standalone product to provide a significantly smoother intake path for the turbocharger inlet housing and impellers to draw in air.
Special attention was given to the lower bend before the turbocharger. The redesigned inlet has increased volume in this area, allowing air to pass around the bend with less turbulence.
The combination of increased volume and a smoother airflow path is designed to improve the efficiency of the air entering the turbocharger.
Carbon Fiber Construction and Intake Temperatures
The turbo inlet is constructed from 100% pre-preg carbon fiber. Carbon construction has lower thermal conductivity than the OEM aluminum turbo pipe and approximately six times less thermal expansion.
The OEM aluminum turbo pipe heats up quickly and retains heat, which can contribute to increased intake air temperatures.
The lower thermal conductivity of the carbon construction helps reduce heat transfer into the intake system, contributing to lower intake air temperatures and more consistent engine performance.
By combining lower intake air temperatures, increased intake volume, and a smoother airflow path, the Infinity Design Turbo Inlet is designed to deliver a noticeable improvement in real-world performance.
Performance Testing
Dyno testing was performed under strictly controlled conditions using an independent Maha MSR500 dynamometer to provide a realistic representation of the performance results.
When the Infinity Design Turbo Inlet was coupled with the Infinity Design air intake system, testing showed increased torque through the RPM range.
As expected, the turbo inlet did not produce additional peak horsepower at the top end of the RPM range. The primary performance improvement was increased torque throughout the RPM range.
Tuning Requirements
No ECU tuning is required for installation of the Infinity Design Turbo Inlet. The product is designed as a standalone intake-system upgrade.
