Honda Civic Type R FL5 (2023+) – K20C1 2.0L Turbocharged
Design & Development
The Honda Civic Type R FL5 delivers 325 HP and 310 lb-ft of torque from the factory, but its OEM intake system is restrictive – featuring a small air opening, convoluted air path, and a simple panel filter. This limits both airflow volume and throttle response.
Infinity Design developed a radically re-engineered intake system to address these shortcomings:
- 80% Enlarged Air Opening – maximises incoming airflow.
- Large Expanding Venturi Tube with Integrated MAF Housing – smooths and accelerates airflow into the airbox.
- Completely Redesigned Carbon Airbox – significantly larger in volume for greater capacity.
- Signature Infinity Design Double-Cone High-Surface Area Air Filter (175mm opening) – maximises filtration and flow.
The result is an intake system that not only delivers measurable horsepower gains, but also transforms drivability with sharper response, stronger low-end torque, and a more eager acceleration feel across the rev range.
Additionally, Infinity Design offers a standalone carbon turbo inlet tube upgrade. This complements the intake by increasing inlet volume and smoothing the radius into the turbo, further reducing turbulence.
Development Process
Multiple prototypes were designed, CFD-tested, and road-evaluated:

OEM vs Infinity Intake:
- OEM features a small panel filter and narrow feed.
- Infinity Design doubles the cross-sectional area of the front air feed, reducing turbulence while vastly improving airflow.
CFD analysis and dyno testing confirmed the redesigned system achieved smoother airflow and higher efficiency under both partial and full load conditions.
Performance Testing
Testing was carried out on an independent Maha MSR500 dynamometer under controlled conditions:
- Stock: 330 BHP at the flywheel (in line with manufacturer claim).
- Infinity Design Intake: 347 BHP – a gain of +17 BHP.
Key Results:
- Consistent torque and power increases from 2,500–7,000 RPM.
- Notable surge in power from 5,500 RPM onward.
- Identical ambient conditions, oil, and coolant temps ensured accurate testing.
- Run-down losses remained the same, validating true performance gains.
This translates to real-world improvements: faster throttle response, stronger torque delivery, and more engaging acceleration in every gear.

- Bespoke short-stack high-surface-area air filter with a massive 170mm (6 ¾") opening.
- Designed for optimal velocity stack effect, altering airflow direction for laminar flow.
- Fully housed within the carbon intake enclosure, shielding against engine bay heat.
