Description
The Evolution Racewerks Competition Series Dual Oil Cooler Kit is engineered to completely eliminate the dreaded limp mode caused by high oil temperatures in BMW N54 and N55 engines. Developed and refined over three years of track testing on our 135i Time Attack race car, this twin oil cooler system ensures stable oil temperatures under extreme conditions.
Key Features:
• Made in the USA; fully manufactured in-house.
• Solves limp mode caused by excessive oil temperatures on N54/N55 engines.
• Two large oil coolers, each 9"x8"x2" (11"x8"x2" with end tanks). Stock single cooler: 8.75"x4.75"x1".
• Combined core volume: 288 cubic inches (over 700% larger than stock).
• Available in standard silver or Type III Hard Black Anodizing for stealth and durability.
• Enclosed box with vented louvers protects coolers from road debris without restricting airflow.
• High-quality Goodridge black anodized AN fittings and stainless steel braided lines.
• Optional aluminum shrouding to direct airflow through coolers for improved efficiency.
• Includes all hardware for complete installation.
• Developed under harsh racing conditions; limited lifetime warranty.
Performance Benefits:
• Maintains safe oil temperatures, preventing limp mode and ensuring consistent track performance.
• Sequential oil flow: 100% of engine oil passes through both coolers for maximum cooling efficiency.
• Track-proven; oil temperatures never exceeded 259°F even in 110°F ambient heat and full-throttle runs to 160+ mph.
• Louvers in cooler enclosures protect fins from debris while maintaining optimal airflow.
• Type III Hard Anodized finish strengthens fins, preventing damage from rocks and other debris.
Fitment – Separate Section:
Compatible Vehicles:
• 2006-2012 BMW 335i (E90/E91/E92/E93) N54/N55 Engine
• 2008-2013 BMW 135i (E82) N54/N55 Engine
Kit Options and Finishes:
• Silver (standard, no finish)
• Type III Hard Black Anodized (stealth and durable)
• Optional aluminum ducting shrouds (model-specific; enhances airflow and efficiency)
Development Story:
Through years of track testing, our team solved the N54/N55 limp mode problem by moving from a single stock cooler to twin 9"x8"x2" coolers in a sequential configuration. Initial designs suffered from oil splitting inefficiencies, but sequential flow ensured all oil passed through both coolers, maximizing cooling capacity. Refinements, ducting, and shrouds allowed consistent performance under extreme conditions, eliminating limp mode permanently.
Important Notes:
• Off-road competition use only; not legal for pollution-controlled vehicles on public roads.
• Vehicle Compliance Waiver may be required for international use.
