Description
The MT64 Rear Shock Absorber (MT64601017) is a heavy-duty monotube suspension component designed for overlanding, lifted vehicles, and high-load expedition setups where consistent damping performance under extreme weight is required. Built by Old Man Emu, the MT64 series is engineered to handle demanding real-world conditions such as long-distance travel, rough terrain, and permanently loaded vehicle configurations.
This shock is specifically tuned for vehicles carrying additional mass from accessories such as campers, rooftop tents, canopy systems, and overlanding rack setups. Its valving is designed to maintain stability and comfort despite constantly shifting load distribution during off-road and highway driving.
The MT64 uses a large 2.8-inch monotube body that holds significantly more oil than conventional shocks, allowing for improved heat dissipation and more consistent damping performance under prolonged use. The aerospace-grade aluminum construction further enhances heat management while reducing weight and improving resistance to corrosion and stone impact.
A key feature is the adjustable spring seat system, which allows for 0–3 inches of lift depending on application and coil spring configuration. Multiple snap-ring grooves in the shock body provide flexibility in ride height tuning without requiring additional components.
Internally, the MT64 uses digressive valving, which reacts quickly to terrain changes—offering firm control during impacts while maintaining comfort on smoother surfaces. This tuning is designed to reduce driver fatigue and improve passenger comfort during extended travel.
