Overview

The APR High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP) increases fuel delivery volume by 37% over stock, allowing the direct injection system to meet the demands of high-horsepower builds. This enhancement is achieved by increasing the pump's displacement with premium components and precision engineering. Notably, on the B9 2.9T, this upgrade resulted in an additional 37 AWHP and 50 AWFTLBS with the Stage 1+ (E85) ECU Upgrade.

How the Direct Injection System Works

  1. Low Pressure Fuel Pump (LPFP): Pumps fuel from the tank to the HPFP at approximately 4 to 6 bar.
  2. High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP): Elevates pressure to a maximum of 200 bar, delivering high-pressure fuel directly to the injectors.

The Problem

The volume of fuel displaced by the HPFP is constrained by:

  • Internal bore size
  • Camshaft stroke
  • Engine speed

Larger turbocharger systems and ethanol usage can strain this system, particularly in lower RPM ranges.

The APR Solution

APR significantly increases the fuel displacement by enlarging the internal bore of the HPFP. This upgrade focuses on enhancing fuel volume rather than merely raising fuel rail pressure, ensuring consistent fuel availability during demanding conditions.
