The 034Motorsport Charge Pipe Clamshell Reinforcement Kit is engineered to reinforce the factory charge pipe turbocharger flange connections on Audi and Porsche vehicles equipped with the EA839 2.9T V6 engine. Designed specifically to address a known weakness in the OEM charge pipe construction, this reinforcement kit provides additional structural support to help prevent flange deformation, cracking, and boost leaks under high boost pressure.
During high-boost testing on a modified B9 Audi RS5 equipped with the EA839 2.9T V6, 034Motorsport identified a weakness in the factory charge pipe's thin steel-brazed flange connections. While the OEM design can perform reliably under standard boost levels, increased cylinder and charge-air pressures associated with upgraded turbochargers and high-performance tuning can place significantly greater stress on these connections.
At elevated boost pressures, the factory brazed flanges can flex, deform, and eventually develop cracks. Once this occurs, the charge air system can develop a boost leak, resulting in reduced turbocharger efficiency, loss of power, inconsistent boost pressure, and potential drivability issues. Because the factory charge pipe is not designed to be reliably repaired once the flange has cracked, replacement of the entire component may otherwise be necessary.
Rather than replacing the complete charge pipe, 034Motorsport developed a cost-effective reinforcement solution that strengthens the factory components while retaining the OEM charge pipe. The kit uses CNC-machined 10mm-thick 304 stainless steel clamshells that securely surround and reinforce the factory turbocharger flange connections.
By adding substantial structural support to the factory joint, the clamshell reinforcement helps minimize flange movement and reduces the likelihood of deformation or cracking as boost pressure increases. The system has been tested to withstand 40+ PSI of charge pressure, making it particularly well suited for high-output and Stage 3 EA839 builds.
