The BMW G20 B48 Eventuri Black Carbon Intake System is a performance upgrade designed specifically for post-2018 November models. Developed with the goal of optimizing turbo performance, this intake system provides a less restrictive flow path, allowing for improved airflow and reduced inlet temperatures.
When designing an intake system for turbocharged engines like the G20 3-Series and G22 4-Series, two crucial factors are taken into consideration: heat and volume. In the case of these BMW models, the intake system is located near the exhaust manifold, leading to rapid heat soak in the engine bay. High temperatures can adversely affect engine performance, as the turbo has to build boost using heated and less dense air. To ensure minimal intake air temperatures (IATs), a fully sealed intake is necessary.
The Eventuri Black Carbon Intake System addresses these challenges by featuring a fully sealed airbox with dual feeds. During the development process, the engineers at Eventuri identified an additional opening into the wheel arch area and capitalized on it by adding a secondary air feed to the airbox. This innovative design allows for increased airflow and improved performance.
Furthermore, the sealed airbox includes a heat shield with gold reflective backing. This shield helps minimize the transfer of radiative heat from the exhaust manifold, further contributing to lower IATs. The airbox itself has been maximized in size to maximize volume and even includes a recess to accommodate potential strut braces.
Replacing the stock convoluted intake tube, Eventuri utilizes a smooth carbon tube that not only provides a smooth path from the filter to the turbo inlet but also offers a larger internal volume. With a starting internal diameter of 111mm (4.4"), the tube smoothly tapers down to match the turbo inlet, optimizing airflow.
As for filtration, Eventuri utilizes a custom-made high-flow dry filter that has undergone ISO testing for filtration performance. This filter not only ensures excellent filtration but also provides a larger filtration area compared to the stock filter.
What sets the G2X B48 Eventuri system apart is the use of patented carbon fiber housings and Gen 2 bespoke filters. This unique design creates an aerodynamically efficient airflow path from the filter to the turbos. It's not just another cone filter with a heat shield; it incorporates the Venturi effect and maintains laminar flow conditions, resulting in reduced drag on the turbo and improved overall performance.
Please note that the G2X B48 OEM airbox system was updated in cars built after November 2018, replacing the airflow sensor with a temperature sensor in the inlet tube. To accommodate this change, Eventuri offers two variations of the intake: the V1 intake, which includes an inlet tube for the MAF (airflow) sensor, and the V2 intake, specifically designed for cars built after November 2018, which utilize a temperature sensor.
The Eventuri BMW G20 B48 Black Carbon Intake System is compatible with the G20 318i, 320i, 330i, 330e, as well as the G22 418i, 420i, 430i, and 430e models.
